Jake Paul claimed victory over Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in an eight-round heavyweight bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday. The judges scored the fight in Paul's favor, with scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
The fight, sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, featured 2-minute rounds, with both fighters using 14-ounce gloves rather than the usual 10-ounce gloves for heavyweights. Initially set for July 20, the match was postponed after Tyson, 58, required medical attention during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May due to an ulcer flare-up.
Tyson, who has a record of 50 wins, 7 losses, and 44 knockouts, became the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20 in 1986 and unified all three major titles a year later. He defended these titles six times before losing in a stunning upset to James "Buster" Douglas by a 10th-round KO in 1990.
Paul, now 11-1 with 7 knockouts, began his boxing career in 2020, initially facing mostly former MMA fighters. His only loss came against Tommy Fury in February 2023, but he has since won five consecutive fights, including this recent victory over Tyson.
