Iowa Poll: As Election Day approaches, Kamala Harris overtakes Donald Trump to seize the lead. This is how!

In a ruby-red state that Donald Trump has won twice, Kamala Harris is gaining support from women to overtake him, according to the nationally renowned Iowa Poll.

In a surprising turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris has overtaken former President Donald Trump in Iowa, a state that many had expected Trump to win. According to a new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, Harris leads Trump 47% to 44% among likely voters just days before the upcoming election, which appears to be a toss-up in key battleground states.

This marks a dramatic shift from previous polls: a September survey had Trump ahead by 4 points, and a June poll showed him with an 18-point lead over the then-expected Democratic nominee, President Joe Biden.

"It's hard for anyone to say they saw this coming," remarked J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co. and the pollster behind the survey. "She has clearly stepped into a leadership role."

Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who dropped out of the race to endorse Trump but remains on the Iowa ballot, holds 3% of voter support—a notable drop from 9% in June and 6% in September. Less than 1% of voters say they would back Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver. One percent support another candidate, 3% are undecided, and 2% declined to say who they had voted for previously.

The poll, conducted from October 28–31, surveyed 808 likely Iowa voters, including those who have already cast their ballots and those committed to voting. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points, plus or minus.
