Maruti Suzuki's new Dzire receives a five-star rating in the Global NCAP optional test.

The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire in India has achieved impressive safety ratings, securing a five-star rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant safety. Equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection as standard, the 2024 Dzire becomes the first model from Maruti Suzuki to receive a five-star Global NCAP rating.

Global NCAP’s crash test protocols evaluate frontal and side impact protection, along with ESC functionality. To achieve the highest ratings, vehicles must also undergo assessments for pedestrian protection and side pole impact safety.David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, commented:

“The new Dzire’s five-star rating marks a significant safety milestone for Maruti Suzuki, especially compared to the previous version of this model and other Maruti vehicles we have tested. This is a commendable voluntary test result, and we wholeheartedly welcome this achievement.

“We are optimistic that Maruti Suzuki will continue to raise the bar for safety across their entire model range. If they maintain this level of performance, it will be a game changer for vehicle safety in India.”

### New Dzire (2024 Model)

Maruti Suzuki voluntarily submitted the new Dzire for testing by Global NCAP. The car's structure and footwell area were rated as stable, capable of withstanding additional loadings. It comes with three-point seat belts for all occupants and i-Size anchorages as standard. During the frontal crash test, the driver’s chest showed marginal protection, while the pole test demonstrated full head protection, and the side impact test resulted in full protection for adult occupants.

The new Dzire also provides comprehensive child safety. The 18-month-old child dummy received full protection, while the three-year-old dummy was well-protected in the head and chest, though neck protection could be improved by using a rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS). In side impact tests, the child dummies were fully protected.

### Old Dzire (Previous Model)

The outgoing Dzire, which will soon be discontinued, scored only two stars for both adult and child occupant protection in its Global NCAP test. This model came with just two frontal airbags and ESC as standard. The car’s structure and footwell area were deemed unstable, and the side impact test showed weak protection for the chest area. The pole test wasn’t conducted, as the vehicle didn’t offer side head protection, even as an option.

For child safety, both child dummies were placed in rearward-facing CRS using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. Despite these precautions, the low child occupant safety rating was due to head contact with the car’s interior and the absence of three-point seat belts in all seating positions.

In summary, the new Dzire represents a significant step forward in vehicle safety for Maruti Suzuki, with improved protection for both adult and child occupants, setting a new safety benchmark for the brand in India.
